Sweet Home Public Library, Sweet Home, Oregon
Professional Background
Megan Dazey has worked in academic and public libraries for over 25 years, with the last four being in a rural Oregon library. Her background is in technical services and systems, though she has done a bit of everything throughout her career. In her current Director role, she manages the library's budget (funded with an operational levy) and participates in the City's budget meetings for general fund management. Known for her willingness to do whatever work is necessary to keep the library functioning, Megan brings a hands-on, practical approach to library leadership.
Megan holds an A.A. in Psychology from Southwestern Oregon Community College, a B.S. in History from the University of Oregon, and an M.L.S. from the University of North Texas.
What inspired you to get involved with the board?
Helping other rural and small libraries that don't have as many resources has been my driving motivation. I want to help empower libraries and library workers to be the heart of their community.
"I want to see more opportunities for ARSL members to receive grants and other funding to improve their libraries and to attend conferences."
My goal is to continue building a healthy, growing budget and income stream for ARSL while expanding support for our members.
Why is the mission of the Association for Rural & Small Libraries important to you?
Small and rural libraries face unique challenges that require specialized support and understanding. Many of these libraries operate with minimal resources, and ARSL provides the crucial connection and advocacy they need to thrive. I've seen firsthand how impactful this support can be, and I'm committed to strengthening these networks.
What are your favorite library programs and personal interests?
I'm passionate about mental health advocacy and enjoy spending time with my cats and visiting Disneyland. When it comes to reading, I gravitate toward nonfiction and biographies of quirky characters.
One of my proudest achievements was helping create a mini-convention for the library, focused on local fan favorites. I also serve on the Rotary and Chamber of Commerce in my community.
