The Association for Rural and Small Libraries (ARSL) Partners with Google to Bring No-Cost AI and Career Training to Libraries Nationwide
US libraries can offer Google Career Certificates and the Google AI Professional Certificate to local residents at no cost, enabling them to gain foundational digital and AI skills. MONTGOMERY, AL – September 17, 2026 – The Association for Rural and Small Libraries (ARSL) announced today at its annual conference that it is partnering with Google to bring no-cost training to thousands of Americans via rural and small libraries across the country. Through this effort, libraries will be able to provide scholarships for hands-on AI training and Google Career Certificates, unlocking new career paths and stronger hometown economies.
Across America, libraries serve as vital anchors of their communities. For millions of residents, the local library provides critical digital infrastructure: public high-speed internet, computer access, community meeting spaces, and lifelong learning programs. Local librarians wear countless hats as trusted guides, helping neighbors apply for jobs, start and grow small businesses, preserve town history, and learn new technology. With this new partnership, libraries can offer Google Career Certificates and the Google AI Professional Certificate to local residents at no cost, enabling them to gain foundational digital and AI skills.
“When a resident earns a Google Career Certificate through their local library, that’s not just a new skill, it’s a stronger local economy. Rural and small libraries have always been where people go to build a better future. This partnership gives them one more powerful tool to do it.”
