ARSL Spotlight: Wil’Lani A. Turner

Wil’Lani A. Turner  Circulation & Career Services Coordinator, Columbus-Lowndes Public Library System, Columbus, MS

Wil’Lani A. Turner serves as the Circulation & Career Services Coordinator at the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library System in Columbus, Mississippi. For Wil’Lani, the library is more than just a building—it’s a cornerstone of the community, offering education, career support, and cultural programs for people of all ages.

Although she never planned on a career in libraries, Wil’Lani quickly discovered the deep meaning in her work.

One of her most meaningful memories comes from helping a man in his 70s, who was raising his grandchild, re-enter the workforce. After attending job workshops, he returned to share that he had been hired—his joy and pride were unforgettable. Stories like this remind Wil’Lani why her work matters.

Her advice to fellow library professionals? Be patient, resourceful, and creative. She emphasizes the importance of building strong community relationships, exploring partnerships, and embracing technology to expand a library’s reach.

Wil’Lani also cherishes her connection with ARSL. Attending her first conference in Seattle left her inspired and full of new ideas, while the professional development and peer connections continue to strengthen her work back home. She reminds all rural librarians that even small efforts can have a huge impact—and collaboration is one of the greatest tools we have.

“Seeing people grow and succeed with the library’s support is truly one of the most rewarding parts of my job.”
